Dr Roman Uliasz is a Lecturer in the Department of Business and Commercial Law. Born on 3 October 1975 in Częstochowa. He graduated from the Law and Administration Faculty (University of Maria Curie Skłodowska in Lublin – branch in Rzeszów) and earned a degree in 1999 and in 2007 earned a Ph.D. degree from the University of Wrocław submitting the dissertation on “Pledge over Shares in a limited company and a joint-stock company”.

 

His area of expertise is company law, commercial contracts and collaterals on shares in a limited company and joint-stock company. In particular, he has worked on the problem of exercising the rights of the shareholder after the shares have been used as a security in bank loan contracts. This was the subject of his PhD thesis which he submitted and defended at the University of Wrocław under the tutorship of Professor Józef Frąckowiak. Currently, within Dr Uliasz’s research are the following areas: comparative commercial and company law, private law codification in Europe, private law codifications at a global level, arbitration in company law.

 

Dr Roman Uliasz has completed a legal practice training for candidate judges held by the District Court in Rzeszów and passed a relevant exam. He has also completed a postgraduate studies for translators at the UNESCO Chair for Translation Studies and Intercultural Communication, Faculty of Philology, Jagiellonian University in Kraków.

 

He is a legal advisor enrolled on the list held by the District Chamber of Legal Advisors in Rzeszów and a Founding and Academic Member of the European Center for Comparative Commercial and Company Law (www.c-law.org). He also performs the function of a Faculty Coordinator of Erasmus Programme. Additionally, he is a member of the Editorial Committee of „Ius et Administratio” (faculty journal).

His former professional experience ranges from lecturing on commercial law at the High School of Administration and Management in Przemyśl, the law of education and legal protection of cultural heritage at the University of Rzeszów to tutorials on European trade law, intellectual property law and EC real property law for candidate solicitors in Rzeszów.

 

Dr Uliasz has experience in working abroad; he lectured at a number of foreign universities within Socrates/Erasmus programme, namely at: Staffordshire University (United Kingdom), Pazmany Peter Catholic University (Budapest, Hungary) and Anadolu University (Eskisehir, Turkey). His lectures touched upon comparative commercial and company law, performing legal professions in Poland and introduction to the Polish law. He also lectures on trade law for the students visiting the University of Rzeszów under the Socrates/Erasmus programme.

 

Hisparticular interests include the use of English in law. For 2 years he was a Legal English teacher at the Professional English School in Rzeszów. He also specializes in legal English translations, placing particular emphasis on civil and commercial law. His professional experience in this respect includes translations of company charters and trade contracts as well as journal articles.
